- 绝顶好剧。以改稻为桑为切口，深入地剖开讲透了大明的官场和朝局的百态。在剧作上，大处是嘉靖炉火纯青的帝王权衡术。严党（黄河，浊流）与徐党（长江，清流）的冲突形成了一盘人人掣肘的棋局。每一人遇一困境，无论生杀疯，下一步棋往哪落都是注定的，皆受制于权力。这也是编剧的高明之处，想来写的时候也很痛快；小处是人物塑造。真正地跳开了非黑即白的二元对立，大忠似奸、大奸似忠，这些人心的复杂斑驳，也因身后头顶的权力作祟。在这盘棋中，人人皆畏惧权力，唯有两人相对超脱，一是操盘者嘉靖，二是纯直利剑海瑞。但即便如此，他们也皆被权力所伤，成为全剧最孤独的两人。审视与反思权力，国剧里极为罕见。再有，剧里的几对父子关系刻画得也相当精彩。
